OK don't go nuts here because I have not done it yet. I am considering it though. I need to slow troll, I mean a 1 mph to 1.5 mph. Here i the NW trolling for Salmon we go slow. The best I can do now is 2.3 to 2.5. I have 454 crusaders

If anyone has done this please share how it has worked out and pictures if you have them.

If anyone has another suggestion feel free to share.

Thanks

You might consider tossing out a 5 gallon bucket on a short rope when you're slow trolling. It's a cheap sea anchor and it'll knock you down to 1-1.5 knots easy.

K&C,
Depending on your transmission make, you may be able to get trolling valves installed. The trolling valve basically lowers the tranny fluid pressure causing it to slip, and effectively slowing your speed. Usually there is a cable connection at your helm that you activate only when in idle to activate the trolling valve. The cable also has a rotary adjustment to increase/decrease slip and resulting speed.

You must be careful to never activate the trolling valves at higher than idle speed and to deactivate them before increasing speed from idle.

I would strongly suggest looking into the trolling bags. I fish Lake Michigan for salmon and have the same issue, I have not gotten them yet but the fishing forum I belong to have charter boat captains singing the praises of the trolling bag... Amish Outfitters has a web site and ships all over. I can't imagine how you would steer with a "kicker"??? It seems like a simpler and cheaper option for the bags... less than 200 dollars for two of their largest bags.
