I have a 32 sportfish that is a dual use boat. I am looking for input on anyone that has added a ladder. I have a stern door without a swim platform. Have to keep the family happy or I will have to get a cruiser WOW that would suck.

I have a 3 step Armstrong Dive Ladder. They work well especially if you are wearing fins. They are very sturdy. A couple of things to watch our for: First, they will float off if not fastened properly. They come with a plastic ring that holds it from floating off, but I place a small bungee on it, as I have had it come off before. Second, since they lock in place, if you for get to remove it when you take off, you can damage the bracket.

I have the Windline stainless 3 step ladder on my 38.
It is mounted centered on the transom door and works great. Easy use.
I had the white Armstrong on my previous boat and it did not seem to hold up as well. Paint started coming off and the end caps kept pulling out.

I have a 32 open and I use it for cruising & off-shore fishing as well. My children are grown but will still go for an occasional swim. I added brass indiviual steps that go below the waterline to be used instead of a ladder. Would not work for fins and would be harder for small children or someone that was not in good shape. I did it more for safety than anything. Has to be installed when the boat is out of the water also. Good luck.
