Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a '92 38 OPEN with 490hp 6125 LUGGERs. Anyone have any feedback on these engines? The mechanic I'm talking to says they're great but I'd like to hear from other owners. Thanks, Capt Ken.

Capt Ken,

Strongly suggest www.boatdiesel.com as a place to get all the information you may want about engines.

You have to do a bit of drilling to get specifics but it is a great site and forum.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards,
Jack

thanks for the websight. Still doing my homework on this boat. Any issues with yours I should be aware of?

Well, after alot of consideration, a good survey, much consultation, I bought the 380 Open. It will need a rebuild on the port engine but I have a line on a Lugger in NC from a dealer. A bit of interesting history... the boat was built for Charles Spires who established the Luhrs Company in St. Augustine in the late '80s after working for Hunter Marine of Alachua in 1971. Charles launched the beginning of a friendship that lasted a lifetime with Mr. Luhrs and that friendship continued for the balance of his life.
Mr. Spires passed away in January. Our sincere condolences go out to his family.
I'll take care of "Legal Holiday" for the forseeable future. Thanks Mr. Spires for building a beautiful boat...

Well... I'm awaiting the new rebuild from Lugger but in the mean time am looking for a new instrument cluster and possibly the harness for the lower station for my 38 Express. Have left a number of messages for Marshall at Luhrs but no response. Are they closed for the summer? Any other sources for parts these days?
Thanks - Capt Ken

I am thinking you will have a hard time finding parts from Luhrs at this point. They moved their factory from Florida to NJ and didn't take many of the older spare parts. I was able to get a few tachometers from their e-bay site.

Most of the instruments on boats are just 'over the counter' or Engine Specific gauges. You can most likely rebuild your guage cluster with new up to date guages as long as they work with the sending units that are on the engines, otherwise you just have to change out sending units as well.

I figured that was the case... appreciate your input.
