Thought this was pretty cool... Anyone use Google Maps / Earth to plan your fishing outtings?

I've used google earth before but never for planning fishing trips. It has been my experience that the satellite images are outdated. How have you found it helpful?

We caught a blue marlin this summer and placed the coordinates on Google Earth to plot the site in the "Washington Canyon". It was neat to play with, but the images in the New Jersey area are at least 5-6 years old, so I would not plan anything current on it. For example, the image in my neighborhood was done in the winter. I went to my winter storage marina and can actually see my boat. Really cool!! The marina has changed where it stores me and I have not been in the stored in the place on Google earth since 2002.

I guess the concept is right. They just need to update it more often...

Does anyone know how often they update the soft ware on Google Earth?
