My port engine tach just stopped working on the lower helm. The tach on the upper helm is still running fine. Any ideas of a test I could run and on which wires to figure out if it's the wires or the tach before I start replacing things that are actually working correctly.

Swap tach's, if the suspected problem tach does not work in the other position you have a bad tach. If the problem stays you have bad wiring.

I agree with Doug.
I had one of my tach's quit on my 38 and had a fit finding a new one.
Good luck.

Got it all fixed up - the tach is fine now. - It must have been a loose wire since I disconnected the tach and tried it on the other side and it came right on. I then tested the wires for pos and ground and had power. I hooked the tach back up and it worked fine.
Is there a way to test the wires for the engine hours and the lead to the tach? Just curious what their output is.
Thanks
Justin

Ok - now I am going nuts:
Now the port side tach's quite (again). This time it's upper and lower - they are both out. So it's not the specific tach, its' got to be the source.
Does anyone know the source of the Tach signal on Cat 3116s?
