I wanted to post this for owners of the Luhrs 28 models. No other Luhrs models are affected to my knowledge. No Luhrs boats were included in the 6 "issue boats" referenced below. The bulletin does list some specific safety issues we should all follow...

SAFETY BULLETIN 2 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Safety Recall:
Yanmar has recently learned of six (6) YanmarŽ marine BY family engines that have experienced fires. Although no injuries resulted, the potential for injury is obvious and causes Yanmar significant concern for the safety of its customers.

In several instances, a broken T-connection in the fuel return line may have been a cause. These T-connections could break as a result of misuse such as subjecting the engine cover to external pressure such as stepping on it. Although Yanmar specifically warns against using the engine cover as a step, it appears as though operators are not abiding by this warning.

Yanmar is designing and fabricating a modification that will significantly, if not completely, eliminate the risk of T-connections breaking even in cases of misuse. Yanmar anticipates having this modification available for retrofitting within 3 to 6 weeks. You will be notified immediately when it is available.
A few of the fires are currently of an undetermined origin, and may have to do with improper installation or engine room insulation not related to Yanmar engines. Nevertheless, Yanmar is actively investigating each of these fires to determine the root cause(s) and develop any necessary remedial measures that may need to be taken with regard to our engines, as quickly as possible. If the root cause(s) is not related to our engines, Yanmar will work with other parties to identify and develop appropriate remedial measures to minimize the risk of fire as soon as possible.

Because of the serious risk of injury or death posed by an engine fire, however remote the likelihood of such result may be, Yanmar is advising all BY engine owners to suspend use of their engines immediately.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions, contact your Yanmar Dealer.
