I know that a number of folks have "devised" rubber flaps to cover the transom door gap that exists on 1994 through 2002 32 opens. Please post pics so we can see how you did it and what materials were used.

Sean,
I put a piece of clear plexiglass about 3" high X the width of the door on the exterior of the door to stop water from coming in, did a pretty good job, stopped about 80% of the water. Aesthetically I give it about a 7 though.

Another solution is to take the door off and have the fiberglass extended to fill the whole door opening.
All of the flaps that I have experience leak and may pull offf when backing down.

john, let's see a picture! the one good thing about the flap is that allows some water to drain back out....how is drainage with just one scupper?

here is a shot of the starboard strip that we through bolted to the bottom edge with a 3" wide strip of nitrile rubber. wish it was white, but the nitrile rubber stays flexible and has lasted over 6 yrs without tearing, chalking or cracking. i know they make FDA food grade nitrile rubber in white but i cannot find small quantities online to order....

On my 2001 340 I simply opened the door and lined the edge with stick on weather stripping. Slightly lube the stripping with something like soap before closing the door. I found that this eliminated about 98% on the water intrusion.

I have a 2000 32 open and the transom door is solid to the bottom without any cutout..... Maybe it was redone by the prior owner?

wit,
do you have the step in front of the door? that was the factory fix but i thought it came later....not a very good fix since it only left a single scupper to drain the entire the cockpit.

I don't have a step infront of the door. You are correct that there is only one scupper however there is no gasket material on the bottom of the door which leaves a 1/4" gap or so across the entire bottom of the door. Water runs out of it pretty fast, however I have thought about increasing the size of the existing single scupper to ensure water runnoff.

wit,
that gap is the space that many of us are covering - at drift it allows a ton of water into the cockpit...if you havent sealed up your lazarette hatch you will get a lot of salt water in the bilge....the "flap" helps alot when bottom fishing or chunking offshore.

Here is a picture of my redone transom door, excuse the fish and folks also in the pic.
I had the dealer I boat the boat from add fiberglass to cover up the hole the flap covers.
I blew the flap off of the boat the very first sea trail, I knew it would be a headache.
The scuppers drain fine, my 1996 38 had a solid door and no flap.

the 1/4 gap hasn't given me much of a problem yet. There was actually a gasket there at one point and it's removed to allow drainage. I've only had a very small amount of water come in the door.
By the way - Lazzeratte hatch is well sealed with a gasket similar to the one on the helm engine hatch
