I just bought a 95' 29' open all the aluminum rails are faded and salted out. Is there any way to paint them or clean them up without paying 10,000? If anyone has any solutions I would greatly appreciate it.

Try Mothers aluminum polish. You can get it at any auto store.

I have had OK luck with bronze wool and corrosion x. Once it pits it will take a lot of rubbing but most of the pitting will come off. Depending on how bad the corrosion is bronze wool comes in different gauges so start with medium and work from there. Then a good coating like Rupps Alumagard, Mothers, or Woody's.

I'll try it! This is the first out of the box idea yet.
Thanks

I just had some detailing done to my problem rails. The folks used a citrus based cleaner and then Woody's Wax left on 10 to 15 minutes and then wiped off. It seemed to work well and was a lot easier then the bronze wool.

go for the whole woody wax "kit" that includes fine bronze wool, cleaner and wax. it is THE choice of all of the big boats for maintaining and bringing back towers and riggers. It wont perform miracles but it will give you major improvement.

if you use anything too aggressive in terms of a cleaner or coarser bronze wool i think you risk removing the anodizing and leaving raw AL....

Woody's works great, we had the same issue. Use the restorer overnight, remove, seal and polish with wax. Ours were terrible and now look almost new. Hard work but $50 versus $10k.
