Just bought this boat a few weeks ago. It was originally a flybridge but has since been removed and all holes patched. This boat reminds me more of a picnic boat than a fishing boat. Which is good for me because I do not fish, at least were I live. I live on Indian Lake in Ohio. It is only about 6000 acres big and really to small for this boat. I would like to take this boat to Lake Erie or maybe even sell it. I also have a few other boats a 97 Baja 24’ outlaw, a 79 21’ Taylor DC Jet Boat, a 72 19’ Chris Craft XK-19, a 55 22’ Chris Craft Continental and a 20’ wooden catboat sailboat. I bought this Luhrs off of the original owners who put new motors (Twin 318s) in it back in 1995 and then parked it in their barn until I bought it. The boats in pretty good condition besides the cabin floor. I have gutted the cabin and have plans to rebuild it yet this summer. I have check the stringers with an awl and can only press it in less than 1/4 in. There are a few spots where the glass is missing around them though. Should this be fixed or is it ok to leave it alone. What is the best way to check for rot? I have been told by some that the wood sometimes is used for a form and to worry more about the glass. They suggested just building the glass up on them and not to tear them out. I don't want to put a new floor and cabin over bad stringers. I am sure there are some spots that are soft but nothing that looks that bad. I have also read about oil intrusion what should I be looking for here. I am pretty handy but nothing is really jumping out saying this is bad, I don't want to rip into the stringers if they really do not need it. The only area I see that may need some attention is the motor mount areas. They cut into the stringers here when the new motors where installed. Boat is for sale, just have to many projects right now. Please email me at adwarren78@yahoo.com. There are some pics of it in in my profile.
