Posted this in another forum and got no response...figured I'd give it a try on the General Forum.

I have an AC pump problem in my 1991 3400 MY that I need some advice on. The AC pump works off of a seperate breaker that is not tied into the AC controls at all. The question is if it is wired that way and only used to circulate a constant flow of water past the AC chiller, than is it possible to use a submersible self primeing pump rather than the silly water circulators that are commonly used. I'm tired of the loss of prime issues usually associated with the circulator types. I'm thinking something similar to those used in marine aquarium applications. I have one for my 125 gal tank that runs 24/7/365 and last for years on end and cost half the price of the AC pumps. Any thoughts?

I know the prime issue is a pain in the a-- however these pumps are the best for this application. The AC chiller needs a certain flow rate in order for the proper heat transfer to take place and continue to operate efficiently. The risk of using a pump of not sufficient flow could shorten the life of your compressor. This is also the reason strainers should be cleaned weekly.

I installed a tee and valve on the discharge side of my pump to bleed off the air. Start the unit, open the valve, bleed off the air, close the valve, Open a beer, enjoy the cool air.
