I own a 1994 Luhrs 290. It has two extenal vents for fuel and waste right below the port and starbord gunnels. They are decaying and have fallen off. I got replacements and then looked in the engine compartment and can't figure out a way to gain access to the hoses, much less the threaded PVC part(fuel tank in way and only about a 12 inch access gap). Any ideas? Rob

Harry,
I have a '97 290. It may be a little different but should be similar. For the port side I removed the tackle box and this made room to access the fittings. On the starboard side you have to go through the access hatches in the under seat storage lockers. I found the easiest way was to remove the entire fitting with the hoses attached from the hull and then pull it into the engine room area. Remove the hoses and attach to the new fitting. Then push the unit back up and through the hull. At this point it helps to have someone out side the boat thread on the retainer.
hope this helps

Thanks. The hatch access is a great idea that I hadn't thought of!

Anyone know how to do this on a 96 32' Luhrs Tournament convertible?

I have A 1993 29' open and have just replaced them. On the starboard side
I have a deck plate in the storage comparment. I had someone hold the
hose in place and was able to unscrew what was left of the outside vent off. On the port side I put A deck plate under the seat cushion in the back corner behind the tackle box. Again held hose from back and did the same thing. I must tell you it was a little hard to cut the hole the fiberglass is very thick there but now I have a easy way to get there without removing the tackle box that looked like it was hard with all the screw holes plugged off. The whole job took about an hour and a half and with the cushion over the plate you can't see it. Oh and I just replaced the outside part of the vent.
