I am about to purchase a new Luhrs 28 open but have been told by a guy from Floridawho fishes from a 28 that they are a very rough and wet ride and the trim tabs have to be used almost constantly to keep on course , is there any one who can give advise on this.

I have talked to dealers in Australia who told me that the 28-Open in seas that they have is one of the best handling boats for it's size in seas like that. They have fished touneys with bad weather come in and had no worries about getting back or continuing to fish in the conditions. It handled better than some of the bigger "non-Luhrs" that they have run.

Take it out and see for yourself. For this kind of money the dealer should let you take a good hard test drive.
It's hard to find a similar boat for the same price.
Remember Luhr's is a price point boat. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles or brass and teak but it's functional and easy to maintain.
I have a 29 (granddaddy of the 28) It's 10 years old has 2200 hours on the engines and still going strong.

I own and run a luhrs 28 in Australia. We have big seas, strong winds and im impressed with mine.I regularly fish in tournies that might be classed as Fresh to frightening. 5 meters of swell, 2 meter white caps rolling of the top and 30 to 40 knot winds. Yes a few things have broken but i fish comps.Mother nature will destroy anything. I did 400nm into a 40 knot wind how many boat will do this ith comfort. I wasnt doing 26knot but i stayed dry.
