I am looking to buy a 1989 Luhrs 400 T. Does any one have any food for thought? Pros/Cons?

Jerseyluhrs,
The 40 T is a great boat. Handles well and is very dry. i agree with dnkstarr, Those engines will push the boat but it is going to cost you a bundle in fuel. We ran a bunch of gas boats back then in this model. Most of them were Marine Power enignes.
They ran well and gave quite a bit of room to work around them, but the fuel prices right now would be crazy.
Hope this helps.

JerseyLuhrs,
I have a 1990 T380...a different boat, but similar in size....I have 454 Crusaders. They run strong, but she is a slow 15 knot cruise and I burn between 35 - 40 gph at that speed depending on how I am loaded.
40 GPH for offshore trips (heavy fuel, ice, bait) Need lots of buds to split fuel
35 GPH heading back to the barn (light on fuel, ice, bait)
I generally watch my flowscans and don't carry full fuel for inshore trips.
I have been thinking of repowering, but couldn't justify the cost..it is getting easier to justify now at $4 - $5 per gallon.

I bought that boat last June and I could give you all kinds of feedback. Make sure you have it surveyed by a very good surveyor. Need to have new risers, heat exchangers, exhaust, distributor caps (marine), 454's need lots of TLC. Watch fuel lines and check the stringers this boat comes from the factory with all kinds of "production boat" faults. Its a lot of boat for the money. Don't pay more than 90K, I don't care what condition it is in. The hoses more than likely all need to be replaced. Watch the heat exchanger zinks and clean out the U Cooler in the front of the motor. What else can I answer?
