I have to replace the anode on my 36 Convertible. The local West Marine store suggested that I replace the zinc anode with a magnesium one. I boat in the great lakes, fresh water, he says magnesium works well in fresh water, and it is cheaper than zinc. But he recommended input from Luhrs. So, zinc or magnesium in fresh water?

Zinc for salt magnesum for fresh water.
What Dave said...
Be sure to replace ALL the "zincs", engines, shaft, transom, etc. zinc doesn't offer enough protection for fresh water. google electrolysis and you will find a lot of articles on this issue.
