I've just purchased a Garmin 3210 network bundle with satelite weather, depth sounder, network hub and head unit. If anyone has any comments as to it's performance or problems during installation, would be greatly appreciated. I'm installing it on a 29' Luhrs Open.

There is an old transducer in the through haul and I've been told that it should be easy to remove. Instructions are to take out the center, remove the farring block by twisting. I cannot believe its as easy as it sounds.

Dennis,

The fairing blocks I've seen have had an "anti-rotation" bolt at the forward end to keep it properly aligned. From the underside of the hull you would pry off the tab covering the bolt.

If you can't find the tab, I'd suggest you remove the nut from the inside and hammer the schidt out of the bolt until it pops the tab off the underside.

DO NOT just twist off the fairing block until you pull that anti-rotation bolt out first.

I have both versions...500watt thru hull does not have a anti-rotation bolt. If you already have a thru hull transducer, save the fairing block and re-use it or if it is not the same profile, you can use the old one to measure the hull angle for the new one.

Yes it really is that easy if you already have one installed....a couple of points...1) use a good marine sealant and make sure it gets on the threads enough so that the backing nut is tightened down into the sealant. This will insure a good seal is made as well as acting as a locknut so the transducer will not come lose. 2) make sure you cut the fairing block so that it has about 1/2" on the short side to allow for proper strength and bonding by the sealant.

On the 1Kw transducers, they need an anti-rotation bolt as they are soooo large (mine is 5"W x 3"H x 22"L with the fairing block) that if they spin, it can actually make you lose control of you vessel. These are a little trickier to install, but not much.

Good Luck.

Yes I have the bigger dual frequency 50/200 kHz with the bolt in the farring block. Althought the one in the boat now does not have the bolt. Just an old wood farring block. Hopefully it will just twist off like they said. Thanks for the reply and will let you know how I make out in the spring.

Just wanted to say Thanks. I was able to remove the old transducer just as easy as mentioned. I'm having the marina install the new one and wanted to thank you again and will continue to use this site as a great resource.
