Can anyone give information on what to look for when checking your cutlas, I guess play? any help?

If you try to move the shaft in the cutlas it will have a spongy feel from side to side but should not have any slop. If you have a vibration running make certain the wheels and shafts are very clean. My 290 will vibrate pretty good if even a few barnacles are on the wheels. If you decide you need to change the cutlas it's a pretty simple job. If you need help feel free to shoot me an email, oddly I live in Gloucester as well and have a puller for the wheel if you need it. You can make a tool for removing and installing the bearing with PVC pipe. Luhrs290@aol.com

Just an FYI for all, while installing my Auto pilot I found the linkage on the rudder shaft not positioned on the key this could have caused a serious issue while underway to say the least, this is now on my annual PM list, calm seas....
