Irish: I know you changed your helm chair a year or so ago. I am preparing to do the same.
Question: My current pedestal for the chair is bolted down with 3- large set screws. I assume they were tapped into some kind of plate. The new pedestal has 6 bolts. Is there a steel plate in the floor? Do you "through drill" the floor/plate from the topside and fasten washers/nuts on the inside of the floor to attach?
Any help appreciated!!

I think there is a plate in the cockpit for a fighting chair, don't think the helm chair has one. I would assume it is thru bolted. I would just make a backing plate to go under the deck.

justin is correct, no plate for the helm seat in the deck hatch. the OEM plate is through bolted with fender washers. i dont think you need a backing plate. a std 9" plate has quite a few bolts and backed up with large fender washers and nylon nuts you should be fine. we have our stidd on a std 9" base plate with an adjustable height of up to 39" off the deck - even with the added leverage of a higher seat we have not had any issues with the mount....not a single stress crack on the hatch....
