This year I decided it was time to clean the air coolers on my 2002 Yanmar 6CXM-GTE engines. I took them off, broke them down, sent them out for cleaning. Also when removing the top cap, I broke four of the bolts and had to have the unit sent out to a machine shop for repair (the same bolts snapped on each air cooler). I am ready to put the air coolers back together and need new gaskets and I also want to replace the 24 bolts that hold the top and bottom caps on to each air cooler. To my dismay, from Yanmar, the price for each bolt was $18.62 and for gaskets they want $150 each. Total price to put together the air coolers for simple routine maintenance tops $1,500 (REALLY?). I was able to find the correct stainless bolts at a specialty bolt shop for around $1 each however I still have the cost of the gaskets at $150 a piece. Has anyone rebuilt their air coolers on a 6CXM engine? Has anyone found a good aftermarket parts dealer that has gaskets for these air coolers? Has anyone actually made thier own gaskets for the air coolers? My air coolers are made by Kawasaki and are number YKM7.8S-A2 (year built 2002).

I was able to find the bolts from specialty bolt and steel shop for a fraction of the cost Yanmar was asking. To top it off the bolts are a much better grade from both a strength and corrosion proof rating. Now I just need to find a source for the gaskets I need. I still think $150 per gasket is over the top. Anyone that has suggestions for gaskets on these air coolers I am all ears.

I don't think it would be breaking any forum rule to post the contact information for any supplier that can save members some hard earned cash, even if it is your brother-in-law. The more we know, the easier it gets to fix problems.

Just put Walker AirSeps on mine and they are much better, more filter area. They have the adaptors "elbows" that allow you to put their 18" stacks on each side.

Momentai,

Can you post some pics of the Walker Airseps? I've been thinking about adding to my Yanmar 6ly3-etp. What are you finding different so far with them...sound, oil drip/mist, performannce?

Wow, that looks great. Lots of air flow surface area. If increases performance and cuts down on sound, I'm sold.
