Hi all.
I have a 1998 290 Open which did not come with a windlass. The anchor locker is covered by a hatch which is about 18" x 18".
Where is the wildlass normally mounted?
Are there any reinforced areas for that purpose?
Thanks for the help in advance.

My 32 has a similar box... my windlass is mounted forward of the hatch. It's a slightly bad design as the rode has to slide down the front of the box instead of dropping staight in.

Hi Justin.
What type of windlass do you have? Is the area where it is mounted reinforced?

John,

I have a Lewmar V1. The area infront of the anchor locker hatch on my 32 was pretty thick glass laminate (wood core).

There was a Luhrs installed Lewmar windlass that went bad.

I also relocated the area where the contactor relay into some space under the berth in the cabin due to the fact that Lurhs installed in the contactor relay in the anchor locker which is a wet location...

I have a 1996 290. I have mounted two different units, the first turned out to be too small it was the Sprint 600. I upgraded to the Lewmar Profish 1000. I used two pieces of 3/4 plastic as a base and mounted it on top of the hatch. I cut the holes in the plastic as well as the hatch. I have had not any issues except that it would be nice if the hatch was deeper. Hope this helps. If you need pictures let me know soon as they are about to shrink wrap it for the winter.

Hi Shamus.
That sounds interesting the way you mounted your windless. Is the hatch strong enough, the hinges and the latch , for the force requided to lift the anchor?
I thought I saw one mounted similarily to yours on another boat.

Thanks for your input.

Ive had no problems with this set up and this is the second windlass Ive mounted on the hatch. It works out as the locker is not that deep so it allows me open the hatch and move the piled rope out of the way.
