I have a 2002 40 Open with Yanmar 465 HP engines. She burns around 1.5 gallons per mile at 26 knots. (That is total).

D&D's are two strokes. Compared to four strokes they are considered fuel hogs. You cannot compare D&D to a Yanmar 4 stroke. How many hours are on engines. At 425 horse, rebuilds are much more frequent due to added stress on engine. I believe the Max horsepower from D&D was 400. Aftermarket upped horsepower which is easy to do with two strokes. Doug

Martuni, what sort of revs are you doing to see that speed?
My 40 convertible 450c cummins uses 75-80 litres an hour @ 18knots and 2050 rpm. This is in real offshore conditions.

I am turning 2400 to 2450 rpm at that speed and the fuel consumption is total both engines. Thanks for pointing that clarification out Capt John.
