Hello Luhrs Owners,

My name is Kevin, and I have owned a 1994 T350 for the past five years. Great boat - Built like a tank and always get's us home safely. Am starting the process this winter to convert to Diesel (Cummins 370 RECON) from the original MP454's to make her even better.

We needed this forum for a long time to help each other...
Looking forward to sharing information.....

Welcome KCUMMIN,
I would be really interested in how your repower goes, I have been thinking about repowering my 360 Con. with diesel's but had been thinking Yanmars... What made you go with the type and size engine? Any bits of info would be welcome..

Esquire,
I've looked at Cat's, Cummins, Yanmar, and Volvo. Cat's were too heavy, Volvo has limited service in my area, Yanmar were nice and light - but also very expensive. Was also concerned about the Yanmar high-rev, although it appears they are very reliable engines.

Cummins has an excellent reliability/serviceability record and I had two choices: QSB-380 common rail, or 370B RECON. The RECON vs QSB pricing(19K vs. 28K), won based on the limited increase in performance I would gain on the QSB compared with the price differential. I'm looking for efficient cruise and extended range rather than max speed. RECON comes with 2 Yr Warranty, like new engine that is extendable to 5 years.

The 370B weight compared to CAT3126 was significantly less, although it does weigh more than Yanmar 6LY. This added weight may help my 20K lb. hull(lower center of gravity), which tends to sit high in the water (See David Pascoe's site for Luhrs review).

These are only my choices, based on my individual circumstances, and others may find better alternatives for thiers. I would recommend that you look at Boatdiesel.com...lot's of good information/experience there!

Kevin
