I have a Lewmar windlass installed on my 360 Convertible, unfortunately the dealer installed it too far forward so my rode hangs up if I try to haul the anchor in from the bridge. Does anyone have this problem? I had the dealer put in a "deflector" to try to fix the problem but it didnt. Anyone have any suggestions?

Esquire,

I have installed a Windlass on my Luhrs as well as other boats I have owned. If you can describe the problem you are having in more detail or post a picture of the Windlass position on your boat, I, or some one else, may have a sugestion.

The problem is that the rode drops down into the valley where the bow joins together and then hangs up. There does not seem to be enough distance for the rode to drop down so it doesnt jam the windlass. The deflector plate was intended to bridge the valley so the rode would be able to slide from side to side rather than getting stuck as it slid down into the locker. Does this help?

Sounds like the Windlass should be moved a little towards the rear of the boat or a roller added to the deflector.

A sheet of Teflon installed bridging the vally may work to let the rode slide down.

Luhrs does have a kit for installing the Lewmar windlass so that the rode does drop to the very back a the anchor well. It actually has a metal plate that the windlass will mount to in the middle of the hatch. Then you replace the existing hatch with 2 smaller hatches on either side of the plate. Works well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information, moving the windlass further back would definitely solve the problem. What is the cost of the kit? and more importantly, what the heck do I do with the hole left where the windlass was installed? Is the kit, "do it yourself" friendly?

If you call Luhrs parts department, They do have a cost for the kit. It is fairly easy to do. As far as the other hole, tha's the 10,000.00 question. Getting that repaired will probably be harder than redoing the windlass.

Good Luck

Cover he old hole with 1/2" thick Starboard and mount a chain stopper or chain hook on the Starboard. Did mine and it works great.

That sounds like the answer. Quick easy and not that costly.

Good Call!
