While looking for a filter for another application on K&N's web site, I found that they have a ton of universal type filters that can be retro-fitted to almost anything. I dug through and found cone style filters and was wondering if anyone has changed their filter from OEM non-rechargable to something similar to the ones in the below links.

The CAT tech also had mentioned K&N makes a filter that can be used.

I don't know about K&N, but have you seen the Walker Airsep? Here's a link. Closes the crankcase breather circuit and recovers blowby. They don't list a product/kit for Yanmar 6LY3, but I'm going to give them a call.

I have looked at walker airsep. They run over $500 per engine for my CAT's.

I was going to replace the existing air filters with new clean replacements from CAT. The elements are about $60 a piece. For about the same price, I was looking at a K&N filter replacement as they are cleanable

i ve got to tell you - we jsut upgraded this season to the airseps and they have made our Cats much quieter. the built in silencer does a much more effective job of knocking down the high pitched turbo whine than the stock airfilter. Also depending on your year, you may/may not have the newer turbo design which has a built in silencer - pre-'98 3116s are almost deafening running at 2200rpms or higher even with good engine room insulation....

also look at the racors for the cats. not sure if they help noise or not but they look trick compared to the std foam coolers and vent tube.

BTW: the airseps are CLEAN!!!

Sean,

Welcome back - havn't seen ya in a while.

I looked at the RACORS also. I am just not ready to drop 800 to 1000 since I have other upgrades that I want to do first.

From what I can tell, CAT stock is just a normal air filter and replacing with a K&N style filter (which looks the same as the airsep filter media), I can at least get some improvment and a cleanable filter as upposed to a replacement type filter that cost more.

By the way, the CAT's are 2000 model year so they aren't crazy loud, but as any engine, they put out noise.
